Book Review: Just Kids by Patti Smith

What hooked me on this book was the first sentence. I really had no idea what it would be about. I didn't really know that much about Patti Smith, I knew she was an awesome female musician, but I hadn't really heard her music or paid much attention to her. After reading the book I felt more informed about her as a person. I found the writing style very detailed, a full book about just a few years.  The book details her relationship with Robert, and their time together in New York leading up to her music career. Just Kids actually has little narrative on her music career, which was a little disappointing. It gives insight into the grungier side of New York in the 1970s, which was enjoyable, having cameos by the cast of characters that came through New York such as Janis Joplin and Andy Warhol. Overall I found this biography very interesting and would recommend it.

Review: Dream Bouncy Blush

I picked up this blush from Shoppers on sale for 5.99. At about half price I thought it would be worth a shot at a new product. This blush is bouncy! It has a nice consistency similar to a cream blush, but has a foamy texture when you touch it. I apply it with a contour brush and it leaves a nice wash of color. This is the coral color. It gives me a peachy glow that lasts most of my day, about six hours.

The packaging is great for travel, it is small only about 10 grams of product and light weight. I would probably repurchase or use another color.

Home Life

So here is my new desk! It was 30 dollars from Ikea. The chair was 10, I wanted a white one, but I wanted a chair immediately way more! So far, it has definitely helped my study habits. I used to do my work in my living room coffee table or on my bed...which usually led to sleeping. Now I have a designated space and I feel like I can focus.

I also added a cork bulletin board. I admit I also use it as a dressing table in the mornings, I have one Ikea basket for my daily makeup use.

A couple of my textbooks...Terrorism and Canadian Politics: the mainstays of an International Relations student.

Life Update

This week has wrapped up, and I'm trying to catch up on homework while it's slow at work. With literally no days off between school and work I am often a grumpy pants these days! I've decided things could be made a little easier if I actually owned a desk at home - it might encourage me to study at home more. So it looks like a trip to Ikea this evening is in the cards! I will post some before and afters once I've got it set up! The only problem I have is that a desk can either go in my tiny bedroom or my tiny living room/kitchen. I'm thinking of putting it in my bedroom so it can double as a dressing table in the mornings! So many options...can't wait to raid Ikea and make my wallet sad :)

top shop make-up review

I was a bad girl righe before my self-imposed spending cut off of 2012. I popped into the Bay and picked up a selection of Topshop make-up. I believe they have just started to stock these products. There was a pretty full range of products, I just stuck with basics to see how I like the line before I invested any further. I actually wanted to pick up some cream blushers since I have heard so much about them on other blogs, but I they only had two unflattering colors.
Instead, I picked up a bronzer, white kohl liner, lip stick pencil, and lip glaze.
The bronzer is a bit dark for me right now, but the consistency is perfect it will be light enough for summer but still have an affect. The kohl liner I bought for my waterline when I'm having sleepy morning eyes (every morning) and it works wonders. It doesn't drag on my eyes which is a huge concern for me, it glides on and stays on even in the waterline for almost a full eight hours which is impressive! The lip stick only came in this one color - Coy. It's like a neon coral that pulls a little pink? Definitely need to use my Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub before putting this on - it does not hide any flaws. It might encourage me to stop biting my lips (ha ha ya right) which is a terrible habit. The lip glaze looks boring here, but the color inside is actually a little different it's much peachier and very pretty!
Overall, Topshop makeup did impress me and I'm eager to go back and try some other products especially their eye products.
I also picked up a sweet black bandeau from Topshop for wearing under sheer black shirts (I have way too many and I don't know why) but I don't think that warrants a photo since it's kinda boring!

1

I just dyed my hair a little lighter, but I swear I'm not just another blonde.
I guess the point of this blog is just to write about my search for what exactly I'm passionate about.
I'm graduating in June and I want to figure out what my passion is by then. I know that's a little backwards - most people know their passion before they get their undergrad degree. Maybe I've always been a little backwards.
I know what I like and what I love - but I'm not sure what I love doing enough to do for the rest of my life. Right now I work in IT full time while I finish my degree in International Relations. There are certain parts of IR that I love, but there are so many other things I love too - traveling, photography, dance, fashion, beauty. I used to love writing too, so many some of that passion will creep back in as a result of this blog.
I don't know exactly what I want out of this, but if you want to follow along while I find out, join me!
